Spirituality: how to talk to your spirit guides

Before you practice any spiritual or psychic activity, protect yourself first with white light. It's important that you do so, otherwise you're playing with powerful energies without protection.

Now, there's many ways to talk to your spirit guides, and some people already do it naturally, either in their heads, hearing voices, or writing things down. For those who haven't already mastered it, I'm offering a simple technique that worked very well for me. If it works for you, then great. If it doesn't, that's ok too. It just means that you either are trying too hard, or it's just not the method you should be using. In this case, I would hope you're interested enough to research and practice other methods until you find something that works for you.

What are spirit guides?

First, let me explain what spirit guides are. You obviously know what a guide is, right? Well, a spirit guide is simply a spirit who has agreed to guide you throughout various areas of your life. There are a number of ways they can do this, by placing various 'signs' in front of you that help you work out the correct path you should be on.

Signs? What are they?

These signs could be people that you meet, books that you read, movies that you see, or even experiences that you have. They're all engineered by your guides, and are often seen as coincidental events, or synchronicity. I remember a quote:
Coincidence is just God's way of remaining anonymous.

Spirit guides are only in your life because you asked them to be there. Before you were born, you asked them to help you through life, to be your guides, to play a significant part in your development. They agreed, and on a spiritual level, they're always with you, even if you aren't consciously aware of them.

They could be helping you with many different aspects, and you're not limited to just one guide. For example, at one time I had a spirit who took the form of an old American Indian shaman, who was there to help me with my healing. Another guide took the form of a small girl, and she was there to help me develop the child inside of myself. There was also my main guide, who helped me with learning and growing.

Why can't I hear or see them?

As you go through life, you're often very busy, physically and mentally. You're highly active, and you think a lot. Imagine that your spirit guide is above you, watching down on you as you're rushing around through your life. Establishing contact between yourself and your guide is similar to them trying to shine a focused spotlight on you as you rush around. If you don't keep still and let them focus that connection on you, you're not going to be aware of any contact with them. The 'spotlight' is the connection with your conscious mind.

In order to establish this connection, to allow them to shine the light on you, you have to stay still for a little while. When you stay still, through meditation or the conscious desire to sit down and just let your mind be open to contacting them, that's when you're more likely to establish contact.

So how do I establish contact?

This method has worked very well for me, and it's very simple.

Sit down at a table with a pad of paper and a pen. Ask for protection and imagine the white light around you, ensuring that only those spirits with the best intentions can contact you. Ask in your head for your spirit guides to come forward and contact you.

When you're ready, write down on the paper a question that you would like answered.

Now this is a very important part of the process. As soon as you've finished writing the question, immediately write the first words that come into your head.

Do not edit what pops up. Do not assume it's your own mind. Even if you might think so, just humour yourself and write it down. Immmediately. Don't think about it, just write it.

When you have finished writing the 'answer' to your question, whatever that might be, ask another question and follow the same process.

This might take some practice, so don't be discouraged if you don't get anything that you consider worthwhile. Keep everything that you write anyway, as it might be meaningful sometime later.

If your mind is filled with random thoughts before and during this practice, you are going to find it more difficult to make the contact with your guides.

Try to quieten your mind, let go of all the thoughts that you're holding onto. Let your mind be as blank and as still as possible, simply by not focusing on any thoughts that turn up, unless it's in response to a question you've asked.

Keep practicing if you find it worthwhile, and if you don't find it worthwhile at all, let it go. It might not be something you're ready for yet. You might want to come back to it another time.

Happy chatting with your spirit guides!

Allen,

I have had several conversations with my spirit guide and others. In fact I was able to communicate with my son before he was born. I have not taken to writing things down but it would be an interesting thing to do. I believe that most people are able and even do communicate already, it is just a matter of us listening and understanding the source.

That's pretty cool being able to talk to your son before they were born, a very special experience.

I also agree that we are already able to communicate with spirit guides, but very few of us actually listen.

When you get practiced at talking to your spirit guides via automatic writing, it's easy to just transfer that ability to conversations that occur in your mind. Where you once wrote down their answers, you can just have the conversations in your head. Lots of fun.

Sometimes people say to me, "I have conversations with myself in my head." I say in reply, "How do you know it's not a spirit guide - or even God - that you're talking to?"

I think that it is very unfortunate that our society teaches our children to move away from spiritually. I have often wondered how many imaginary friends are really spirit guides. I believe that our children are born with more spiritual abilities than we use when we grow older, we just loss the abilities because we are told that the "imaginary" is not real. Then we must work hard later in life to regain the abilities we had as children.

There has been more than one night that my son has woken up and won't go back to sleep that went my wife or I open our minds up we can feel a negative energy in the room. It is amazing how often, like one of your previous posts says, asking to be protect and have him protect by the white light that he fall quickly to sleep.

We have believed since before he was born that our son is special and is here for a reason, he is a spiritual teacher. We have even had this confirmed by a “psychic” that we trust. Our goal is to raise our son in a spiritual manner allowing him the freedom to explore his beliefs freely.

Your goal should be the goal of every parent. I think it's sad that it's not. It'll be my goal too. :-)
